Rescuers from Pakistan quickly went to get Sadpara's body. They included climbers and rescue teams from his village and the Shigar region.

Broad Peak, located in the Shigar,  Gilgit-Baltistan region, is considered one of the "safer" eight-thousanders, standing at 8,047 meters (26,555 feet).

However, the accident has underscored the inherent dangers of high-altitude climbing.

Pakistan, home to five of the world's 14 peaks above 8,000 meters, including K2 and Nanga Parbat, is a destination for climbers worldwide.

In 2023, over 8,900 foreign climbers visited the remote northern region of Gilgit-Baltistan during the summer climbing season, which runs from early June to late August.

Murad Sadpara, a celebrated Pakistani mountaineer known for his daring rescue missions, tragically lost his life during a descent from Broad Peak, one of the country’s tallest mountains. The incident occurred on August 10, 2024, when a rock struck him on the 8,047-meter (26,400-foot) high peak in the Karakoram Range.

Rescue Missions and Heroic Acts:

Murad Sadpara gained prominence for his remarkable rescue efforts. In 2022, he single-handedly saved numerous climbers stranded on Broad Peak.

He was also part of the team that recovered the body of Afghan climber Ali Raza Sakhi from K2 in 2023. Just days before this tragic incident, Murad had visited Nanga Parbat twice within a span of six days.

Broad Peak Expedition:

Murad embarked on an expedition with a Portuguese climber to scale Broad Peak. Unfortunately, adverse weather conditions forced them to turn back.

While descending, a rock struck Murad, causing a fatal wound. Despite rescue efforts, he passed away before medical aid could reach him.

Legacy and Achievements:

Murad Sadpara’s legacy extends beyond his mountaineering feats. He was the only mountaineer in the world to remove his shirt at the summit of K2, setting an incredible record.
